APS was established in 2002 with a goal of developing and commercializing high performance polymer products. Dr. Frank Harris, an Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Polymer Science and Biomedical Engineering at The University of Akron, of Polymer Science and Biomedical Engineering at The University of Akron, was installed as CEO due to his extensive experience and success in bringing new products to market. One such product, a compensation film for liquid crystal displays has already generated over $1 billion in sales. Dr. Harris then assembled a world class team of Ph.D. scientists with expertise in organic and polymer synthesis, polymer physics, and chemical engineering to aide his efforts.
This combination of talents has proven invaluable as APS has already developed several high performance polymers for aerospace, solar cell and display applications. Polymers for fuel cell, communication and biomedical applications are in various stages of development.
